ABC's

A mother and father speak proudly about how smart there twin son and daughter are. The are young and still in elementary school.   They can read well and do math, above expected level.  Both will most likely graduate high school early and enter college while friends are still thinking about Winter formal dances and proms.

"We let them be creative and make his own decisions even express themselves. That's why we never tell them no."
 ..You're impressed.

"Before we eat," The Mother proudly says;  "Show us all your math tests from school"
 "No!  I don't want to!"
She whispers to you;  " All A's."

"Okay, show Pastor how you can read."
" NOOOOOOO!!!"
(they don't say no,  the kids do. Hmm).
"Do you want to go on the computer?"
 "Yes."

They say: "Well, that went well."
You say: "Yes it did.  They really enjoy that computer."

I'll Be Home For Christmas by Bing Crosby

"I'll Be Home for Christmas."

Army basic training in the 70's was all you hoped and feared it to be.  Christmas came and they sent us home.  Whether you were thrown out of the house and told to go join the military or if you enjoyed a great family growing up, you were homesick and looking forward to new family memories.

While on a day off before the Holiday leave, I was at a USO , where a band played that song:"I'll be home for Christmas." I became very homesick and knew I would go crazy if they had kept us away from  family and friends, ham and fudge.

I can remember as a boy, watching ol' Bob Hope's military Christmas special during the Viet Nam "conflict." It would be hauntingly quiet when someone sang that part: "I'll be home for Christmas."

This Christmas is no different with Sons and daughters, moms and dads, husband or wives, in harms way!  I suppose many a recent letter or phone call ended with "I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams".  Remember those in prayer.

Cats and Dogs

The saying goes it is raining "cats and dogs" meaning it is raining hard and might make travel or standing on the porch difficult. Tradition says that cats and dogs are always fighting . Old cartoons verify this.

It is also known that the Church (I was raised in church and am a Christ follower) sometimes fight like cats and dogs.  It apparently has been discovered, some church goers relate to God like cats and dogs relate to their human masters.

Not to long ago I read that, some Christians are like dogs and some are like cats. "Dog Christians" love their masters and wait eagerly for them to return from being away. These dogike worshippers say "You feed me, you must be God".  The "Cat Christians" are finnicky and act like they can take it or leave it and say "You feed me, I must be God."

I f this comparison were true, I wonder which one am I. Which one are you?

Why Am I here?

1. EXALT.  We are to love and worship God. He is worthy of our worship of lifestyle and singing.

2. EQUIP.    We are to teach/learn the actions and teaching of Christ, Making disciples.

3. ENCOURAGE.  we are to go along side building each other up using the gifts God gave us.

ENGAGE.   The follower of Christ is commissioned into the neighborhood and show and tell of God's love.

The Bible says we are to Love God and love others!

Love and peace train.

A few People around the world are reading this.  I think that is awesome.  We have an opportunity to speak peacefully and in unity.

******************************************************************************

The internet is a dangerous yet amazing venue for getting on board the peace train.  Peace not war, just communicating about personal interest and differences in personality. It does not matter where in the world you are.  You are my neighbor!

******************************************************************************

I know that faith in Christ is the answer. Jesus said that He gave his followers peace.  Not the peace the world gives but His peace!

God loves you and so do I.  Peace!

MEMORIES AND TRADITIONS

There is an order of  life.  We develop while in our family nest, then we are to fly and begin new lives.  Some form another family, while other chose to live alone.  Whatever the life choice,  the idea is to mature and see a progression of growing physically, mentally and spiritually. Our circle of early life, creates many fond memories and traditions, that can be infused into our new personal families and  friends, as we also experience new traditions and form new memories. These thoughts of a past holiday or vacation place can be stepping stones into a positive and healthy personal plan for the grown children and their family or friends.

As is the case with anything, we see unhealthy family relationships.  While others want absolutely  nothing to do with the immediate family they grew up in, some never leave or many suffer from (or enjoy) Dependent Personality Disorder.  I'm not speaking about difficult times; finances etc.  I am talking; Manipulating the plans and control of conversations that keeps the little birdie warm in the nest.

Matter of fact Mom loved being a mother and made all the sacrifices but now might be a time for resting or parachuting out of an airplane. In some cases she's still raising adult children and like never before, in both rural or an urban setting, she's raising grand children.

When this happens, memories and traditions; slow down? stop? Why? You are always in the present. Occasionally nothing is special or creating a magical memory.  This idea of memories and traditions transforms into;  you "wore out your welcome" years ago.  It could be true: absence does make the heart grow fonder. No matter the age or even if the "child" has a family of their own, a short in the circuit happens and  the above normal progression of moving on, is in the dark and powerless, while growth of an entire family community is stunted.

"GO WEST YOUNG MAN"!

The United States would not have been discovered or developed from Plymouth Rock to San Fransisco if we were to stay in the immediate homestead or nest.

The family community to create community was ordained by GOD:
"Therefore a MAN shall LEAVE his FATHER and MOTHER and be JOINED to his WIFE and they shall become one flesh".

As I try to learn from the mistakes you and I have made, I say:
Go. enjoy life!  as you (sometime without knowing), create new memories and  traditions.

A COLD CHRISTMAS!

It's December before Christmas and I don't want to peak on the first few days and get brain freeze on The Eve of Christ's birthday celebration.  But I've witnessed actions and attitudes already that would just break the heart of ol' Scrooge.

It becomes near to impossible for a church or any community organization to be of service for a lack of volunteers.  One person, no matter how loving or having charisma has ability or strength to carry the load single handed.  It could possibly be handed over to a church or organization with a deeper bench and a better... why.

We pray for open doors to share the Gospel and aid those who less fortunate.  (Those who are at no  fault of their own).

MAYBE WE ARE PACING OURSELVES

I have seen help rushed to different victims of recent weather disasters. I salute and brag on them.  Think about the freezing people on the street, under a bridge. Trolls as far as some are concerned.  Like everything else it is the small minority that comes to the aid of the helpless.  The birthday of Jesus yet no one tells about it, never bringing up His death. This Savior and gift that God has sacrificially given to the world. We look upon the daily unfortunate ones as business as usual  or inconveniences to deal with. We are to busy with our "holiday" plans and menu.  There is the Cantata "Go tell it on the Mountain" after all and we have to practice!

"Are there no prisons?  "and the union workhouses"? "I wish to be left alone...Since you asked me what I wish, that is my answer."  "If they had rather die they had better do it and decrease the surplus population."
"It's not my business. It's enough for a man to understand his own. Mine occupies me constantly."-Scrooge.

"Others Lord others,
let this my motto be.
Others Lord others,
that I may be like thee!"

Better to Give...

'Tis the season to be jolly.  This time of year carries that spirit of joy and in the middle of our chaotic globe a peaceful feeling.  We begin to look back as well as, plan for the New Year ahead. We have our lists of presents we want and millions go with that list in hand to do combat.

My advice is to keep the receipts.  So if your "gift" isn't just right, the receiving millions can go back to return for a refund and nullify the economy boost of black Friday.   Christmas shopping lines will be long but it will give them time to stare at the paisley print jeans or the giant "sad clown" painting  for the wall , and standing there,  filled with the Spirit of Christmas shouting : "They'll Love it"!

Christmas day has dwindled down to resemble a "birthday party for me!"

There will be people and cities where it won't  be "Christmas" at all.  No food, gifts or parties.  Just dysfunction, drinking to forget the season,
in some places?  car bombs or an abused women shelter.

"For God So loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever BELIEVES in Him Shall not perish but have everlasting life"!  It is the Birthday of Christ the one who gives true peace.  The best gift of all.  We say by Grace alone through Faith alone in Christ alone.  Have you received that gift. Are we going to share the gift so others might hear and trust in Christ as their only hope to spend eternity with God.  When we do believe, we receive peace with God and then the peace of God.

We are to share bread for life (Wonder Bread) and the Bread of Life (Jesus Christ).

Here's a good Christmas list::
  1. Love Alive International
  2. World Vision
  3. Salvation Army/Red Cross
  4. Boys and Girls club
  5. Homeless Shelters/Pacific Garden Mission.
  6. Feed the Children
  7. you pick a family/person
  8. Angel Tree
  9. Operation Christmas child/Samaritans Purse
  10. Senior Citizens
"GOOD WILL TOWARD MEN AND PEACE ON EARTH."

FWF the Family Wrestling Federation

Man this fight is going the distance . In this corner mommy and daddy and in the other corner the kids.  It resembles a pro wrestling match more than boxing.  One tag team is cheating and the other contestants are the good guys that everyone cheers for but the kids pick up a folding chair and send the parents running back the same way they came in.

It's a traveling battle and the arena is a store, school, church and a home near you.  The kids are rookies now but what happens when they get 13 to 16 years experience.  It all ends up in a lose, lose scenario where the kids win for a few years but  (like the "bad guy" wrestler no one enjoys to see them coming).  The parents lose for a few years and no one enjoys to see them coming either!

The fans might suggest a referee. Maybe the family could get action figures so others can play without the embarrassment.  Also  A good idea is to rehearse at home before you take the contest to the public.

The Moral of the Story.

We hear so much about teaching Bible, with story instead of lecture.  Balance is the key here.  Some insist on adding dialogue and discussion.  Years gone by students wanted to be heard and wanted to share or conduct a "rap session."  Years later, (and occasionally) at the end of discussion or a "rap session"  most found out we or other class members, didn't know what we were adamantly talking about.

During a Bible class we need the lecture to be undercoated with taking notes and studying them later.  Lab work in the field of study,  mingled with story to visualize the lecture/ talk  as the leader/teacher makes the idea come alive!

There are morals to the story that is told:
  1.  You do have a heart.
  2.  You do have a brain.
  3.  You do have courage.
  4.  Nice guys do get the girl, (usually).
  5.  Be intentional you will be closer to that career.
  6.  Be focused and raise the percentages, you'll accomplish your mission.
  7.  Be persistent  and you will endure.
Seek wisdom and you might just win!  If we don't like life, let's move into action and rewrite and readjust your story to accomplish God's plan.   The moral of the story is not to protect but prepare.  Live, Share and Show your story! The rest of us will learn something.

HEART PROBLEMS!

Life change!  Along this journey we experience many turns and u-turns.  Every New Year we make resolutions to improve or change our lifestyle by turning over a new leaf.  We will go back to school, read a new book every week or month.  We start a journal to look back and see if  life is on track to an improved  behavior.  Weeks later we open our journal of introspect only to find we stopped entering our saga weeks ago.

Months later we are dissatisfied with ourselves again.  We then spend all night searching the infomercials for the latest quick fix to a successful life.  The new friends will ask: "This is the new you? I'd hate to see the old you"!  We've made another wrong turn and life's GPS  gives facts but doesn't fill you in;  mentally, physically or spiritually.

FACE IT!

Looking around, your face book friend list is shrinking and people are starting to drop hints about your little faults. You begin to see with the eyes of your latest friends; your house IS a pig pen, you ARE opinionated and your facebook posts are  sophomoric.  "Maybe I should read a new book or take another class".

The good news is those issues are minute compared to a life resulting from poor life choices.  The neglect, anger and depression is a reality of those that are public enemy #1 as well as those that have secret, violent domestic issues next door.  Some live to bring chaos, not for political or an ideological  reason, but rather self gratification only violence and destruction can give them.  A new book or medication may help for the short term. A violent lifestyle can be even magnified by the jail experience.

WHAT'S YOUR POINT?

Whether we find ourselves losing facebook friends or doing jail time. Turning over a new leaf won't cut it. Jesus Christ said "Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks."  The book of Jeremiah says:: "The heart is deceitful above all things, who can know it"?  Thus, we at that point need not an improved heart but new heart. We receive that new "heart" and mind through faith and trust in the life death and resurrection of Christ. Paul wrote:
...Put off the old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. The Bible says God knows your heart and we then believe and  God says: " I will give them a new heart".  There is a spiritual new birth (ever hear about that?) and God spirit enters  and makes us new.  That is only the beginning, as we then mature in life and set our hearts on things above. Result: heart transformation- maturity- then life transformation!

God of this City - Chris Tomlin

A list of Things I Don't Want at the Grocery Store.

I dread going to the grocery store.  Don't get me wrong I love the food and the intercom music there.  We write out a list and being the "man out on the hunt, I am armed with pen in hand, to scratch off the item on the list as I place it in the cart.

I also have a list of things I don't want:
  1.  circling for twenty minutes looking for a parking.
  2.  other circling cars in the parking lot
  3.  racing other cars to a spot two rows over.
  4.  losing that race.
  5.  getting run over walking to the store.
  6.  finding no carts available.
  7. everyone stopped at the first item by the door.
  8. a missing sign because I can't tell the difference between a zucchini and a cucumber.
  9. someone blocking an item deciding, while five of us wait  for five minutes.
  10. a price check at the cash register
  11. out of my favorite candy bar by register (for the ride home).
  12. getting run over on the way back to car.
  13. waiting for twenty people to cross as I'm driving out.
  14. women against men shoppers (W.A.M.S.) with a bucket, collecting money at the exit light.

CONSEQUENCES

Throughout our youth, humans for the most part make a variety of  poor choices. We touch things that are hot, climb something unstable and fall.  After we grow taller we pay to much for an item.  We jump in the car and go to Upper Wisconsin during February and do not pack a jacket.

Some of us choose to go to (the list could be endless) a few parties and the door is wide open for some and they walk right in and we choose pleasures (the list could be endless)  as a lifestyle and we do not want the feeling to ever go away and we stay to long, even a lifetime. The false security of credit cards result in years of debt and forms of depression.  If I choose to eat a gallon of ice cream every day this week. I choose to be chubby next week.  Good behavior or bad, we then discover (maybe not learn)  there are consequences and they can be distracting or worse, fatal.

Some cases end in poverty, babies having babies, poor health, ruined relationships, and addicts having children is a vicious cycle where the life as child is damaged and in some cases the entire lifetime wasted, a consequence of  multiple poor decisions of someone starting way back when and repeated .

Keep doing what you're doing and you'll keep getting what you're getting.  We attempt to teach/discipline kids for behavior at school or church. But they are neglected at home.  Teaching or training should start at home but we're a few generations behind.

I suggest Training should be given to both; child and parents.  Sessions on "Healthy Life Choices" with long semesters or the consequences will spread. It is time for our churches to make an investment and minister to experience community development; Physically, Mentally and Spiritually.

Shepherd,Mentor and Pastor.

With a laugh and booming voice that shook when he spoke with a broken heart for souls, all during some of the best and loving sermon/messages I have heard.  Our pastor while preaching might break into a song and then paint the Bible in your mind as he told portions like Paul and Silas in prison and the Jailor running in asking "What must I do to be saved"?

Pastor Easton was a presence in many phases of our lives throughout the week. There were Softball games and picnics, committee meetings and he often visited his flock including my parents home. Early in my life, maybe since the third grade, it seemed he never stopped teaching, preaching, visiting, building relationships as well as some of the church building.

I obviously didn't always follow the example set by Pastor Easton. Don't let that diminish his light and influence. Especially in my teenage years, he provided me many opportunities to serve the Lord. There were hundreds, by now thousands of people that were guided and stood by him and made him proud/joyful..  I believe he knew he was loved and appreciated.

He has passed away ,  close to a week after we had had a church reunion of his sheep to pay him honor. I appreciate those ladies that were thoughtful enough to make that happen. Like Jesus it would take volumes of books to tell the stories about Laverne Easton's ministry. This update is added to bring honor to his wife that  has just passed.  She was the definition of the "First Lady" of the church,  She at times was quiet yet had a classy wit and manner. You could consider her a pastor as well and deserved and received  respect from all ages of the congregation. There will be those of us who nearly crashed on the rocks of life.  Sounds corny maybe, but true, because of the lighthouse and memory of the sincere preaching we saw and heard we are still afloat today.

I Thank God for Pastor and Sister Easton!

CHANGES!

Our daily routine is often a safe place to exist.  Billions of humans even enjoy the luxury of living in a rut.  Familiarity isn't a bad thing as we daily go to school and return to the lovely homes we live in.  The security of the same career brings a peaceful sigh as you float down to your swivel chair in the cubicle or pew.

Marriage has more changes than a baby's diaper.  How many know a baby changes things?  Your sleep and eating habits revolve around the new born.  You can't take the bundle of joy to a party because no one would invite you back. You then leave junior with a babysitter that you; call, text, fax and email every thirty minutes.

Scores of  people have lost jobs and wages.  What used to be such a promising fluid life, now comes to a smoking grinding halt.  We have to look for that new career or worse, any old job.

Picture, one minute you are going through a normal morning activities and the television warns of a tornado and before you know it your subdivision is on the evening news that's reporting about the fatalities just around the block.  After the twister destroys the community  you don't know where your shoes are and the family paperwork can't be found.  You have all the family rounded up. What could possibly be running through the minds of folks whose house is now a pile of sticks. I can imagine they have no comprehension of what just happened and what lies ahead.

The man Job, from the Bible comes to mind, another tragic story of questions resulting in yet a deeper trust in God. A situation that challenges our emotions, worship and faith.  I pray for the peace of these that experience these tornadic, life changing experiences!

I could never say "I know what you are going through." I pray the aftermath of unwanted change will not be the end of the story.  The sad reality could spark hope, anger, a determination and resilience and produce strength to persevere any new changes they will ever meet.  I watched the evening news reporting on a days travesty, displaying a picture from an hour after a storm of a rainbow over the leveled  neighborhoods.

Change can be something to look forward to.  Change can be something we never desire to come in contact with again.  In this imperfect world, with it's instability God does not change, and His love never fails. When we do not understand, which often happens, again the best place to start is..."In the beginning..."

ARE YOU CONTAGIOUS?

No matter what we like to do or passionate about are other people getting it. Do you cast the divine vision for the the future to those who could help make it possible or will others be heart broken because it was kept secret and did not happen.

Followers of Christ have to live and tell it in a way that others know and desire what we have. Will anyone want to join you in dreary religion? We hope to live with enough excitement and love, that people will see the answer to the void or discover the truth in what they see!

The question is ; Are you contagious?  Hopefully after they see your love, passion, vision for your Charity, church or business plan they catch a glimpse of the dream and say "Tell me more."

It may be someone handing you a hammer so you can build bird houses.  Many times it's someone at a bank that is jumping on the band wagon.  Be prepared to give your idea and vision  for a thirty second elevator ride or a fifteen minute presentation to a team of would be core group members gathered to finance and put feet to your prayers for  launching the business or church or book club.

"I'm in. With your passion you seem like just the person to get it done." or "That's a great plan, it seems you have planned this out, plus we love your energy." and "You are sensitive to God's leading, I want to be a part of what God is doing."

So many have followed a Hitler type or became the Manson Family when they met a contagious leader.  We can only imagine the good that can be accomplished if  you and I could be enthusiastic about the business or ministry that could be a service and multiply in the number of people helped, followed by them joining the movement.

If you have a good cause or idea, don't go it alone. Infect someone.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  He then creates man and woman and breathes life into them. They had minds, choice, emotions and soul. Ol' Satan comes along and tempts, tricks and teases. They fall for his scheme and sin, breaking the heart of God, ruining their/mankind's  relationship with God.

GOD WARNED 'EM.

Apostle Paul writes that all have sinned. He says the wages/payment of sin is death.  We of course sin and death is a result. People pass away. the cemetery is full of all ages and status. It's a physical death and a spiritual one, that is in a punishment and apart from God.

With the power of choice, We following the first people sin against God and are going to die...But God who is rich in mercy.... God demonstrated His love toward you and me in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. The roman government put Him on the cross because of the religous leaders accusations. When they did God placed the sins of the world on Jesus. He died a sacrificial death on our behalf. He then raises from the dead and His tomb.

And if you would say Jesus is Lord of it all and believe in your heart/mind that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved/rescued.  Again the Apostle Paul said You are not saved by your/our good deeds but by His grace through faith in Christ. It  the gift of God. Have you recieved that gift?

Now you've made the correct decision and able to experience that joy God's Word talks about. You will experience eternity with God as you live a life of worship to Him now in this portion of life.

Congratulations.

NOT FOR SALE !

Have you ever sold something for a lower price than you wanted?  You desired to keep it but you had to sell it quick and cheap.  We always hear about the antique that was handed down through the family and had great value to a mother who passed it on to her daughter. A year later the daughter sells what was valuable quick and cheap as it held no value to her.

Many a person has had  their heart broken when the spouse sells their relationship, home and family for the cheap price of an affair.  Then next is a life time of  loss and pain, from the short time of a forbidden cheap moment for everyone connected. "Family for sale, cheap" !

Struggling with grades, career and family pressure to succeed the student achieves it from cheating on most tests.  We have read where students of a  university expelled for cheating. "Education, integrity, for sale. Cheap"

Churches that one day were filled with life are now museums of once useful Christians.  The times changed. Some even softened the message to get a crowd.   Most of the congregation moved out of the neighborhood and undesirables moved in. Ministry needs changed but the programs did not.  "Ministry, Churches purpose for sale. Cheap"

God our creator gives value, shown by Christ's death on the cross and we should live a life worthy of His praise.  It's in the time of struggle and temptation, we tell the author of each "NOT FOR SALE"!

SELF DRIVEN CHURCH.

"It is all about me"... That could be the first sentence to a book titled: "The self driven Church". The book would probably be the second best seller of all time.

Don't get me wrong there are not many churches that the entire bunch is selfishly minded.  There are enough self driven pew fillers sprinkled around the U.S. to make up a portion of God's church. In saying that, the majority of true believers are all about loving God and others.

The "Church"  is called out and sent back in to make an investment and impact the world around them.   The community around the church often has no where to turn because we take the easy road. I selfishly stay in my comfort zone, while those hurting search for the answer to their daily life issues and eternity.

The pastor speaks about Loving God and your neighbor,  some continue to ask "Am I my brothers keeper and what have you done for me lately"?  The Apostle Paul said something like;  God gave leaders to equip the church for the work of the ministry.

I/we  tend to forget where we came from and are blind to the spiritual needs of our neighborhoods.  Jesus looked out over Jerusalem and cried. If we are to accomplish even more than community development.  We must have the same burning desire and catch the divine vision of our future that God has given to accomplish Godly spiritual development.

A self driven church or life results in drought. We get driven in the wrong purposes instead of producing disciples. It takes time to develop this maturity. Christs followers are meant to be fruitful and productive in our efforts toward others.

In light of God's love and grace toward us, how then shall we live?  We don't have to look farther than the Book of Acts to see we can be a Spirit led Church telling the whole world God is in control and He loves us.

In spite of us bad apples, there are those that are maturing and sharing God's message of Christ and Love. These groups of believers have thrown someone out!  That someone is "self."

ONE ON ONE

We are always looking for the next big thing to do.  I'm sure you have accomplished quite a bit for soul, mind and body of those in your city or nearby. Actually, what is required is that, we are intentional and remain focused on certain needs that we can best help. Reason being, we are to love others and love God because He first loved us.

Many needs in the community or on television seem to be overwhelming.  Be relieved to know you can't possibly single handedly, solve all of the worlds problems.  It would not be wise to bring yourself to poverty and then require help from others.

Within the multitudes of "blessed" people there are myriads of resources available as in finances, time and effort. All of us don't have to give all but add some to the kettle and multitudes can be helped.

They might receive finances or clothing, even scholarship for a class or full education. It will take myself and you to donate and volunteer towards service to the community.

A church, we at one time lead focused on a few needs and organizations:
1.  Paper goods and toiletries for a women shelter.
2.  Operation Christmas Child
3.  Food and school supplies for a local Salvation Army
4.  The needs of our own congregation.

I know of other churches that provided turkeys etc for city families. Larger churches and civic clubs feed  people meals weekly and at Holidays.

The one thing Jesus noticed was the one on one personal ministry and help to others as they gave sacrificially in His name.  Peter and John walked by a man and said something like "Silver and gold have we none , but what we do have we give to you. get up and walk"  They saw the real need and filled it, not with the big donation but a miracle larger than any cash.

The BRIDE Church in Michigan City, In.

Let me encourage us both to always look for opportunities. The church I now attend is gearing up for the winter season and hoping to receive or purchase clothes in good condition to give those that need them. It only takes one to reach one. That's church done Biblically and simple.

JESUS WITH SKIN

Every last Saturday of the month The church I attend uses a recipe to make a  laundry detergent concentrate, just add water. The pastors wife recently added a fabric softener.  The first Saturday of the month they give it out free to the community. Many in our church's neighborhood return time and again. It is also always good to see a new face.

This last time they sat out clothes for those who need it.  It's turning into quite a ministry in the community. The Church is starting to get a reputation, (unlike myself) it's a good one.

Relationships are being formed, seeds are planted. One or two say their grand kids  come out on Wednesday afternoon to "Youth City" (which may have around 80 kids). Everyone that we meet is friendly and appreciative and sometimes a "blessing" to us. We have nice conversations and some linger to eat donuts and cake. We are there to bring glory to God and comfort to someone that might need it.Our pastors do not see this as; "us and them." It is like we are all in this life together.

It is a joy (I don't use the word joy to often) to see our young pastors Aaron and Rebekah and helpers setting up and bringing food and hanging and folding clothes. In order to replace the ones given away, additional containers of concentrated detergent,  are brought  from a room, by some neighborhood kids that came to help and play as well.

We focus on Bible, Worship and community Service.

"Now, why are you doing this"?  The answer is the same as the Apostle Paul's and should be for all church community service We are compelled by Christ's love.  Paul also wrote "clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility", etc. It would be fine to call it a Christians duty but when God's Holy Spirit enters in, it's all a part of a new DNA.

***********************************************************

A violent storm was blowing against the house.  Rain and hail tapping the window as lightening flashed and thunder echoed frightening everyone.  The mother was hard at work and asked her little daughter to get the broom from the back pantry. As she started towards the back , thunder rolled and she walked swiftly back to the front room. "I thought I told you to get the broom".  "I'm scared". " Jesus will be with you".  "This time I would like a Jesus with skin".

That's what our Church called "THE BRIDE" is, an answer to someones prayer ; "Jesus with skin".

The Day Time Stood Still !

We have a clock in every room.  We own watches.  The kitchen clock stopped because the battery had died.  We couldn't find a battery to replace it, so for 24 hrs it hung above the kitchen window motionless.
"Time" marched on and out of habit We would look to the clock shaped like an apple and it was 4:00 O clock.  An hour later like "clock work" we looked at the clock to see the time.  Jumping or taking a double take we felt embarrassed we had looked.  "Time and time" again it was 4:00 P.M. or A.M.

We began to see how much we depended on a clock high on the wall.  We would get nervous and shake having to go all the way into the next room to see if we were late or early (for what I do not know).

No matter how insignificant you think you are some one depends on you.  They might even take you for granted but if you are a few minutes late people begin to miss you or wonder what will happen if you aren't there.   You are a valuable cog in the machine of life. Walk with your head high soon you will hear:            "You can set your clock by them"!

Somewhere in town.

"Where's your ol' lady and my food."?
'I hope you starve, loser".
'watch that mouth punk! Get back in that room"!
"I don't want to be out here with you anyway".
"I wish you were never born."
" Well I wish you would die"

Thirteen year old Paul and his mom's boyfriend had words everyday.

Huddled against the wall was Paul's younger brother mike. Mike was tossed there by John, his mom's angry drunk and high boy friend.  John's life was going down hill fast without any brakes and he was going to take as many as he could with him.

Throwing a half filled can. "You brats are weighing me down. I could be out right now partying. I'm tired of babysittin'.  You knuckleheads are dead weight".
"Dead weight"? We had an o.k. life before you came a long" "Go out and get wasted, your life is wasted anyway"!

"I'II waste you..." John came at Paul wigglin' a knife, chasing the boy back into his room. Mike began to shake and cry.  "You little girl. I wouldn't be caught dead with you around ,you little embarrassment, get outta here"!! John pushed Mike and his head careened  off the corner of a beer and vodka soaked end table.

John put on an old blues record and fell asleep in a spinning stupor until awakened the next morning by the boys real father.

Pray for discernment, wisdom and compassion, in the trials of others.

It's not a pretty picture.
It may be happening right now, somewhere in town.

GOD IS LOVE

God doesn't have power. God is power. God doesn't have love. God is love!  I was reading 1st, 2nd and 3rd John and it talks about walking in love.  While I was reading these three short letters these four ideas stood out.

1. We are to Love God.  "This is Love for God, that we obey His commands" 1st John.  One guy asked "Hey Jesus! What's the greatest commandment"? Jesus told him "Love the Lord God with all of your  heart with all of your soul and with all your mind."

2. We are not to love the paradigm of this world.  "Do not love this world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  1 John.

3. We are to love others.  John wrote: "This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another."  This is not only living for myself. I live sacrificially  for you and you live for me.

4.  God loves you.  "We love because He first loved us." 1st John.  O f course there's John 3: 16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only begotten Son. That whoever believes in Him shall not die but have everlasting life."

Once we believe, we realize Peace with God,  followed by peace of God. Growing in maturity as a follower of Jesus Christ.

DROP IT LIKE A BAD HABIT!

Some habits are good some are bad.  What started out with just seeing it, followed by thinking about it. Before you know it we try to experience the activity, resulting in being owned by it, seeing no way out. Bad habits will either hinder us while many destroy us.

You may have one, so many have a list of destructive habits.

The heart and mind cry for release. Some start as a good time that ends up in "What was I thinking"?  We're obviously not talking about something harmless. Relationships have been destroyed and we lose the trust of those around us. Health has been ruined due to a habit.  We have trouble with our minds or even breathing. Finally lives are tragically snuffed out like a candle at the end of the day.

We can quit smoking for instance. Millions of us have been hooked on cigarettes. So how do you stop?

1. Realize they can destroy your throat and lungs.
2. know they can kill .
3. See that not everyone else has to do it.
4. realize quitting is a struggle, it is easier said than done.
5. It is to expensive.
6. replace them with something else, like bottled water etc.
7. Continual self talk
8  temporary medication
9. Go a different route, away from the store on the way to and from work.
10. journal.
11. Be accountable to someone and don't go through quitting a habit alone!
11. Follow Christ as your Lord or renew that relationship and pray like you have never prayed before.

Dropping bad habits seems hopeless but it is possible.  You/they may not even want to quit the habit but quit before you end your marriage or the Doctor says stop or else. Give it to God he can give you HIS peace.

WHEN YOU EXPERIENCE SUCCESS AND YOUR MIRACLE, GO ALONG SIDE THE NEXT PERSON WITH A  BAD HABIT AND TELL THEM YOUR STORY  OF HOPE AND FREEDOM.

FACES

"Here they come"!! It's Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. There is thirty to forty plus church and neighborhood kids, ranging in ages, who many times are waiting at the door at 4:00 are now coming in to the church bldg.  It's time for what the church I attend calls "Youth City."

One crowd gathers around the craft table to make slime or to paint designs on a t-shirt. Another group begins to argue over the fooseball table, the pastors wife breaks it up and wisely suggests a tournament so they all can play.  Four more are at the ping pong table.

                                                    MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL

The main draw is the gym where most kids pick teams and play basketball!  With a few adults keeping order of it all and succeeding on the most part, sort of.

Someone, sits at another table where they crowd around wanting to quote  1-10 Bible verses which in return they receive "Bucks" that they can take to the little store to buy candy or toys even a football. "It's time to eat"!! Each week something different; Hot dogs, Pizza burgers, spaghetti, Mac and cheese. Before we eat the pastor makes announcements, shares a devotion or verse and we pray that ends with a thunderous amen.

If not us,who.  If not now when!

There are always those that fight or horseplay, some even try to cheat on the memory verses.  On occasion it will stretch your patience.  But all you have to do is look into their faces that tell stories of loneliness, sadness, hate, as well as smiles and of course those that are oblivious to the dangers around them.  They begin to cause trouble but melt when shown love by the pastor and leaders. The hard guys and girls soften when they see we mean them no harm and love them.

The pastor and his wife have invested time, resources, in the lives of the kids as he leads us to provide physical, mental and spiritual healing, These kids now come to worship on Saturday nights and ask to be involved. A few have become followers of Christ and baptized.  That's what it's all about.

Some ask, "why?   For the change in their minds and hearts, even the smile on their faces.

MENTAL, PHYISICAL AND SPIRITUAL HELP

Heart transformation and life change is the target. Eternity with God is our purpose and here on earth our motto from the Bible would be:  LOVE GOD, LOVE OTHERS.

This age has turned the corner into a new paradigm of high tech and innovative leadership. This revolution of  the thinker/innovator has as usual left those who are living a meager below par mental, physical existence. Both ends of the spectrum can possibly need a spiritual awakening.

We seek the development of the high echelon to go higher. My question is why aren't the dreamers and those seeking to monetize and write books, saying this is how I can save that kid from following those harmful behaviors lived out in those of his circle of life.

Higher education will probably not be in sight but what if there were personal consistent loving training sessions for those under privileged and/or people who have lost employment due to economy.  Training for:

                                                                        1. finances
                                                                        2. skills-of all kinds
                                                                        3. motivational
                                                                        4. reading writing.
                                                                        5. leadership
                                                                        6. life after divorce, bankrupts, etc.
                                                                        7. How to: life skills and decisions; family, finances etc.

I know these are offered and that many do not take advantage of them. But if we would be persistent as a government, school, church (which could offer many classes and resources). We would realize greater development then  buildings and transportation in our cities.

Let's think how we can see Community Development in Mind ,Body and Spirit.

RICHTER SCALE CHRISTIANITY

Something common to many other countries but foreign to the U.S. is being incarcerated for being a Christian.  The Apostle Paul and Silas were in jail for speaking and doing miracles in the name of Christ. When it was around midnight they were in chains, singing and praising God.  No matter the circumstance or trial, sunny morning or dark damp jail cell, followers of Jesus should be singing and living a lifestyle of worship. Not thankful for all things but in all things.

They worshiped and were praying, singing while the other prisoners heard them.  That is miraculous. I wonder what they would hear me doing? complaining? cursing, quitting? I pray God give us grace for that time of need.

They had a miraculous attitude and spirit and as a result there was an effect that resulted in an earthquake! This is the time to seize the moment and share God's message and show His love.  Their  prayer and God's power shook the place, the doors and chains fell off!

I wonder if anyone in any direction, realizes we're here.  You and I are trying so hard to be safe and blend in, while the community God has placed us in, can't find us.  I believe we have been placed in the neighborhood for heart and life transformation, people experiencing peace with God through faith in Christ.

Many church's don't like the surrounding neighbors. "After all they don't attend church and some are addicts, homeless and socially inept."

BOOM, BAM!  It's going to take, prayer, worship and telling the good news of Jesus. A Christianity of earthquake proportion that will bring about change for the good. First in the church and headed down the street, watching chains of all kinds of addiction, manipulation and hurt, breaking and falling off.

Christianity that measures on the Richter scale, is seen and felt by the community.  The other prisoners in jail with Paul and Silas hearing them sing and pray in their mess, said "We're staying with these guys."  They may have realized this earthquake was of God to improve their situation and relationship with Him.

Begin now to live with/for God and let your city experience community development of the soul and mind.

DEVELOPING THE COMMUNITY

"WHERE DO THE CHILDREN PLAY"?

Yosuf, (formerly Cat Stevens) asked in song;"Where do the children play"? Which was asked in the 1970's. a time of  new "community development" done at the sacrifice of nature and "lived in" homes as well as playgrounds. Joni Mitchell's song "Big Yellow Taxi" had the same concern.

Time marches on and in this year, month, week, today and this second I ask "What about the kids"?  The tech revolution offers a place in front of the television/computer nonstop, playing "Grand theft Auto" or even "Mario Bros." and the list is endless.

Major cities and downtown U.S.A. are both working hard to redevelop and create sales and traffic with new condo's over looking the new improved main street. There is no doubt downtown improvements are needed. But not hiding or forgetting the young people and the old that live three blocks away. It is in with the new and out with the old.  Nothing  can stop this train called progress.

The '70's show "Good times" was a great statement of people being left behind  while prosperity looked the other way.

                                     *******************************************
Not only physically but also mentally, there are scores of people that are displaced to another location that is anywhere out of the way and out of sight and out of mind.

The children's education suffers and obviously their social behavior is not developed. They know how to operate a video game and the latest phone with a nice car parked in front of their run down apartment bldg (which is not being renovated).  "Survival of the fittest" is the slogan of these streets and the children know very well in their evolution that no one cares or loves them.
I ask where is the church. I don't even care if it moved to the suburbs go back in and live out "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND" ! These all need the good new of Jesus Christ including food and clothes, leadership and ..love.

The tech/business/leadership revolution will knock down HOMES and run a commuter train through a needed church or faith based bldg in the name of progress but..."WHERE DO THE CHILDREN PLAY"?

The Pendulum Swings..

One thing we can be sure of is, there's not much we can be sure of.  Like the seasons, people come and go. Just when you thought this;  friendship, love, pastor, church, or job was forever, the rug is pulled.  Emotions, that may have been oozing within, results in exploding;  anger ,tears and volume, resulting in a bitter conflict.

                                                       BEEN THERE DONE THAT

We seem to be happy, but the pendulum then swings to dissatisfaction, joy swings to depression, the swinging never seems to stop. It swings when the person you confided in for years, suddenly begins to reveal your hearts secrets.  Maybe times when you even hear someone say about.. you:  "Don't go to them,  one minute they listen, bite your head off the next". The pendulum swings from one extreme to the next.

                        *********************************************************

"You're so predictable" does not sound so bad anymore.  In fact, I have learned that it would be an ideal principle in times of... pendulum emotions.  Consistent predictability. What if, others/we, could always be there when someone needed to listen or give good advise.  Hear that? -"You can always count on him/her".

This week (better yet today in real time) let's you and I, be challenged.  Let's be consistent with grace, or an even mindset, we might not see so many trying to manipulate the situation, keeping their distance, so as not to be scolded, hurt, dropped or embarrassed... again.

The Bible says: "Love your neighbor as you love yourself". A great relationship could soon follow.

TO DO LIST

"I'm not perfect. God is not through making me."  "I haven't arrived yet" and many more pop hits of the infamous sayings we use.  It is very true that we are on a life journey and many adjustments need to be made.  You may be on track but Me, myself and I need a mental, physical and spiritual GPS.

To intentionally live life we may need, a "To Do" list.  (I'm thinking my wife is the inspiration here).

TO DO:
*Recognize-Who I am, Where I am, (Am I on track?) Who am I leading? following?

*Regroup-   What do I know or need to find out.Have quiet time.

*Resist-      Where are you and I most tempted? The Bible says to resist.
Work at procrastination, laziness, ignorance, selfishness.

*Return-     Working all the above and attack the main mission and required tasks.

This might have to be done many times a day. We are to Be what God wants us to Be and Do what we need to Do.  One man said to expect great things from God and attempt great things for God.

NOTE TO SELF:  PRINT AND PLACE ON REFRIGERATOR DOOR.

Back to the Basics

"Gentlemen this is a football."  Vince Lombardi would always start each season with the basics like; blocking, tackling and then mature into the plays intended for the team to "Run to Daylight." and football championships.

                                                    "WELCOME TO BASIC TRAINING"!

While in the Army, they didn't train us privates to lead battalions to defeat the evil empire. They taught us the basics of marching, shined boots, rifles, throwing grenades and the importance of following orders.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the attack or ambush happens remember your training!

No matter the position;  pastor, office manager, teacher and student, often get ahead of themselves wanting to succeed,  head & shoulders above everyone else so they multitask and take on a lot of work they cannot handle and slowly "fizz out". We look into the latest business or ministry buzz word trying to be the latest and the greatest.

                                                     KEEP IT SIMPLE SILLY

Instead of trying to be the next BMLIC  (big man or lady in church) ahead of schedule we would do well to major on the basic and foundational principles and truths.

Let's you and I get back to:
                                       * prayer
                                       * Bible STUDY
                                       * Sharing about Christ
                                       * daily life surrender
                                       * worshiping God with others
                                       * seeking good relationships

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a good reason for the;  Pastor, speech coach, life planner, Biblical counselor and the informational/how to guru. It is incorrect to desire to remain where you are.  We know it is wise to intentionally grow and mature developing ourselves with  the basics.  Timothy needed the apostlePaul and later the Apostle Paul needed Timothy!

I know we all want to be an over night success but we would go farther and stay longer concentrating on the basics and then moving on from there.  I see, no matter your level or age, a great strong future, as we "Run to Daylight."

BOOTS ON THE GROUND

The Christian is in a spiritual warfare.  The enemy is not people and the weapons are not missiles and rocket launchers.  Since the fall of man it has been an internal conflict. Old Satan loses in the end so the believer must fight with the knowledge of through faith in Christ we win. The Bible says the follower of Christ is seated in Heaven as we speak. HOW? In Christ, who is seated there.  But the ultimate terrorist, The devil himself. with his army of sneaky demons,  is harassing and fighting gorilla warfare in the spirit arena and in the minds of people everywhere.

                                                            WE WILL NOT NEGOTIATE

As in every battle there are casualties.  The partner disciples are to come along side and help the other. No one left behind!
We do not look the other way or put our head in the sand and ignore the bad guy who is trying to destroy the glory God gets, as well as, our influence in the community.  WE WILL PUT BOOTS ON THE GROUND!
We will fight the enemy by going into the neighborhoods with the good news of Jesus Christ and food and clothes, prayer, love, help, healing, compassion, touch, concern, in the power of Gods Spirit and the Word of God. This is not defending but proclaiming:

                                                                GOD'S TRUTH IS UNSTOPPABLE

NO PARKING! (here I am being transparent)

It's been a long four years at home on disability, caused by blood clots and high dosage of  thinners,  accompanied by type 2 diabetes  in addition to the  aggravations that go along with them.  Before and even during this time I have had the opportunity to speak at churches and fill in for pastors on vacation. I was most happy before these ailments to spend an entire year speaking and volunteer shepherding a small congregation at a local church.

Prior to disability I was a long distance as well as a local driver and at the same time doing the above teaching and platform speaking at churches. I have read very much while on disability. For a year we led as leader/pastor, a dieing church. it didn't end positively.  I pulled the plug on me instead.  I felt like the NFL coach that takes a team to the Superbowl and the next season loses six in a row. I do love church and community involvement and will continue to do so.

                                                              TO MUCH INFORMATION.

That is more than you care to know in two paragraphs.  But I've been asking myself ;WHY?
It seems as if I have wasted These past few years not accomplishing much. Keeping safe.
Saying that, I look at people my age and  observe the level of expertise and successes in the business
world as well as church ministry and wonder WHY did I not go for it, pray and make the right decisions.

                                                       HOW, IS THE NEXT QUESTION

We all want to be a help and add value to our circle of life God has placed us in.  If I indeed wasted the past I will  refuse to waste the wasted time and will learn from it while looking toward  a good present and future.  The education begins and maybe you and I may decide to:

                      * read and learn/be inspired by blogs
                      * study websites and the minds and success of  other individuals
                      * study biographies
                      * read as many books as possible
                      * become an expert without becoming a know it all
                      * allow others to invest in us and then invest in others
                      * write a blog/tweet/book/course
                      * pray as if it depended upon God and work as if it all depended upon you
                      * read a chapter of Proverbs,Psalms and Acts from the Bible every day

-The Bible says to write down the vision and run with it!

REPENT !

"I messed up. I'm sorry so sue me"!  That doesn't sound like true repentance. We have heard someone either face to face or on television cry crocodile tears which in reality were sorry they got caught.  The phrase "I'm sorry I did it"  accompanied with "but if you didn't..." isn't  showing real repentance.

                                                   "I'M GOING TO CHANGE" !

True repentance is more of a change of mind and /or heart.  It requires a new look at lifestyle or mindset toward our behavior that has been incorrect and even damaging to others as well as self and correcting and adjusting the actions. When I say I'm sorry and the behavior stays the same the society sees it as inconsistent and we lose their trust.

< "I USED TO WALK IN THIS DIRECTION, NOW I WALK IN THIS DIRECTION">

After watching an inspirational speech or reading a book  and listening to a great sermon the result is often repentance.  A realization arises that a thought or lifestyle was incorrect and change is required. Permanently.

"Wow. I've been:   Procrastinating
                            Lazy
                            Gossiping
                            Lying
                            Selfish

"Now, I'll be:        Intentional
                            Relentless
                            Encouraging
                            A Blessing

Write out your new behavior something like:
I'm picking myself up and I'm going to start/finish:  writing the book, do the report, the assignment, relationship, volunteering, the Bible, Seth Godins latest book, and hit the ground running and be a great addition to the circle of life God has placed me in.

*OLD THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY, ALL THINGS MADE NEW*

community building boom!

"Go into all the world"! That's what Jesus commissioned  His followers to do! They jumped all over it in the first century and here we are still telling others who Jesus was and what He did.  There is still a small window of engagement that have never heard.

People all over the world from Russia and Indochina, France and the United States, that believe in and are trusting in Christ's work, as their only hope to spend eternity with God, make up His church. The church is growing in number. The writer in Revelation said he saw a number of people you couldn't count, there were so many!

Many do not believe indicating our work is not done.  Christians all over the world still must make Christ known.  There are many doors now open for missionaries as well as local churches that are the avenue God can use.  Let's go and tell the good news of Jesus Christ. Opportunities today range from Family, Art shows, concerts, and service to the neighbors.

I Talk about building the church while there are those that would tear down or even injure other members of the body of Christ for whatever reason.  In our ranks it is true, many have fallen and sinned etc. It is often said of us, instead of helping them we shoot our wounded and say "they got what they deserved".  The Apostle Paul writes we have received spiritual gifts for the the building and good of the body of Christ. We are to build one another up.

     Let's: Pray for one another
             Give to one another
             Encourage one another
             Die for one another
             Live for one another

The christian community is growing globally.  The call is now to equip  with God's word, love and power and then engage our local community giving God the glory!

Develope your community to the glory of God.  Hello to my brothers and sisters in Christ around the world.

DON'T WORRY

"I can't seem to make ends meet"! "My present status is terrible, where does that leave the future"?  You get out of one situation and here comes another one, bang! bang!  Or there are two or more at once that keep us wanting to stay in bed like;  Tuition, house, family, repairs and promotions/unemployment.

I CAN'T MAKE LOOSE ENDS MEET

Accompanying the reality of the need of "things comes the depression, sadness, tears, hopelessness and fear and worry. Jesus told His followers (I hope you are one) "Do not worry"  "Look at the birds and consider the lilies.

MEET THE LORD OF THE LOOSE ENDS

Jesus later told them: "I leave you peace,. not the peace the world brings but the peace I give".  He gave some strange advice. Look at the birds. and think about the flowers

.
                                                       "TWEET, TWEET, RETWEET"

It does make sense.  He said the birds don't have barns and store food for the winter.  They don't have a bird Walmart with little bird greeters to buy seeds.  Jesus says they go flying into all of the seasons knowing God is going to feed them.   The flowers don't sew or make they're own clothes or own dye.  Jesus Said God clothes them with colors and different shades of beauty.

"HOW MUCH MORE DOES GOD LOVE YOU!

Maybe some of you remember "back in the day" when there were store front churches.  It wasn't a pretty sight.  While the uncovered hanging light bulb cast shadows on the blank walls, the song leader would almost lead a tiny congregation in singing, accompanied by an out of tune piano that was accompanied by a congregation that could be heard for blocks.

There has been a revolution of doing ministry and  seeing life transformation.  A new avenue many are taking advantage of,  for ministry and slim mobile church sites. The new method is church ministry done at a STORE FRONT!! In the community strip mall.

These are attended by an army of Disciples and Jesus followers//Christians.  A slim no nonsense approach to doing ministry in the community.  Though now there is great lighting and the location might be in a new strip mall the attendees will be of all ethnic and economical persuasion  The main idea is not the building but the message focusing on added souls, connect groups/Bible study, worship and community service.  The method is not come and see but go and tell.  These store fronts  are once again reflecting the ethnicity of the neighbors. While sending finances across the globe they also minister in the community nearby.
                                                                     Acts 5:42

In these last days it is time for the traditional church and the planted store fronts engage their circles with the loving message that God so loved the world that gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him should not die but have everlasting life!
